Building Cyberdine Systems With Kids

Starting last September, I volunteered to teach and to be the robotics lead for the local 4H extension office. Check out the post inside to see some cool videos.

The first couple of meetings we worked on building trebuchets which was a lot of fun. We’ve since started playing with the Lego Mindstorms NXT kits. We have three of them and the kids need to share but it has been a great deal of fun.

In this pair of videos, we have a walking chicken.. sort of.

After working the kinks out, we had a little more success.

In the last one, another group built a grasshoper with a movable, portable power supply.

All the videos above came from our December meetup. Below are some from our January meetup.

The chicken and grasshoper are based off the instructions in the excellent book NXT One-Kit Creatures. Full disclosure, that’s an affiliate link to the book below.
